Baba Yaga is a famous figure from old Russian fairy tales. She is an incredibly ugly witch, but also has the ability to appear in the guise of a very beautiful woman bearing precious gifts. She can adopt all sorts of different shapes. She threatens to devour the hero of the tale, but also offers him sound advice and warnings. Baba Yaga knows the secret of the Water of Life and Death and where to find it, and may be kind enough to give it to a lucky recipient. In our meeting with Baba Yaga we can be forever transformed. In order to receive her help, we must learn humility.
– Annbjørg
A powerful and innovative album from Annbjørg Lien. With evocative melodies and innovative combinations she conjures up a musical landscape filled with abundance, gathering the essence of traditions from both near and far.
“Let’s go back to the beginning and take another look at that artistic space that Annbjorg Lien occupies. It’s perhaps best summed up as one where the magical is commonplace. Once the listener can take that idea on board then there really is no need to try and categorise this music. Listen and believe.”
